Instagram Reels for Nigerian small businesses: what to post and how often
A simple Instagram Reels plan for Nigerian small businesses: content ideas, how a selling Reel is built, captions, hashtags, and turning views into orders.
Quick answer: post three good Reels a week: one that teaches, one that shows your product in use, and one that proves you deliver. Open with movement or a question in the first two seconds, put key words on screen, and end with one clear action, such as "send 'PRICE' on WhatsApp". Check your own Instagram Insights to see when your audience is online, and post then.
Reels are how Instagram shows your business to people who don't follow you yet. A good Reel can reach thousands of new customers in Lagos, Abuja or anywhere else, for free. But "post more Reels" isn't a plan. Here's one you can keep up.
A simple three-a-week plan
- Teach something. "How to style a bubu for a wedding", "3 signs your perfume is original", "how to store small chops so they stay crunchy".
- Show the product in use. Worn, used, cooked, opened — the thing your photos can't show.
- Prove it. Packing orders, deliveries going out, real customer reactions (with their permission).
Three a week, every week, beats ten one week and none the next.
How a Reel that sells is built
- 0–2 seconds: the hook. Movement, a close-up or a question. Never start with your logo.
- 2–8 seconds: the product in action. Show it doing its job.
- The reason to care. One benefit, said simply: lasts all day, delivered tomorrow, handmade in Lagos.
- The action. Tell people exactly what to do next: "Send 'PRICE' on WhatsApp" or "Order from the link in our bio".

Captions, hashtags and locations
- Caption: one or two lines that add to the video, then the call to action. Put price and delivery details in the caption too.
- Hashtags: a few relevant, local ones beat thirty generic ones — think #lagosvendor, #lagosfashion, #abujabusiness, plus your product type.
- Location: tag your city or area. It helps local customers find you.
When to post
There's no single best time for every business. Open Insights in your Instagram app, look at when your followers are most active, and post an hour or so before that. Then keep an eye on which Reels do best and do more of those.
Turn views into orders
- Put your WhatsApp link in your bio, and say "tap the link to order" in your Reels.
- Pin your three best Reels to the top of your profile.
- Use Story Highlights for prices, delivery and reviews, so new visitors find answers fast.
- Reply to comments quickly: every reply is another chance to sell.
Boosting Reels
When a Reel is already doing well on its own, boosting it can push it further. Start small, test for a few days, and remember that paid adverts in Nigeria may need ARCON approval before they run.

QUESTIONS PEOPLE ASK
- How long should an Instagram Reel be for a business?
- For most sales content, 7 to 30 seconds. Short Reels are easier to watch to the end, which helps them reach more people.
- Should I boost my Instagram Reels?
- Boost the Reels that are already performing well on their own, start with a small budget, and remember that paid adverts in Nigeria may need ARCON approval.
- Do I need to show my face in Reels?
- No. Product-focused Reels work well. Showing the people behind the business can build trust over time, but it isn't required to start.
